Phuket Deal Gives Kiteboarding a Sporting Chance on TV

Phuket Deal Gives Kiteboarding a Sporting Chance on TV

Tuesday, February 7, 2012
PHUKET: The KTA Asian kiteboard tour and TV sailing channel Marine Scene Asia announced today the signing of a media partnership agreement for the coming season.

Marine Scene Asia is a specialist sailing channel that produces programming covering all aspects of the Asian yachting and boating scene. In particular it focuses on covering competitive sailing regattas, which is an important new outlet and audience base for the KTA and kiteboarding.

''This is an exciting new media partnership for the KTA this season, one which will help us to bring kiteboarding and in particular kite racing more into focus as part of the competitive sailing world,'' said KTA Founding Director Neil Godbold.

''Our goal is to showcase the marine scene in Asia to the world, using the latest IPTV technologies. Working closely with KTA this year we will provide a platform for this new and exciting sport to reach a larger audience,'' said Duncan Worthington, Co-founder of Marine Scene Asia.

Marine Scene Asia is a specialist sailing channel that produces a monthly program called 'Go Yachting' which covers a wide range of yachting and boating happenings around the region.

It also specialises in competition reporting of the region's major sailing regattas and it was at the recent Phuket King's Cup Regatta in Thailand where the KTA and Marine Scene Asia first made contact.

Following on from this first appearance of kiting in one of the world's major sailing regattas, the KTA and Marine Scene Asia are creating the first kiting channel to appear on a specialist sailing TV platform.

It is a positive development that reflects the growing interest in kiteboarding as it becomes a potential future Olympic sailing class and both Marine Scene Asia and the KTA felt that this partnership would offer an ideal opportunity for the sailing community to become more familiar with the kiting scene and its competition formats.

The new KTA channel is now live and you can take a visit at www.marinescene.asia/kiteboard-tour-asia-2012-kta-tour.

The new programming kicks off with the first competition round of the season, the 'KTA power by Aqua Boracay' and will continue to follow the fortunes of the tour and other competitions as they continue through the year.

For the KTA and kiting we think this is a great step and one that is hopefully just the start of many more links with sailing and the marine industry at large.

About Marine Scene Asia
Using the latest Internet TV technologies, the Marine Scene Asia team brings you the latest happenings in the Asian marine industry through the lens. The video lens. Words can only take you so far; still imagery can conjure an emotion; Internet TV can put you in the action, take you closer to the heart of a story, and being online, is ''on demand''. No need to schedule time to watch the show on TV, here you can view at your leisure, when your schedule suits.

Marine Scene Asia is Asian-based and proud of it. The team's aim is to promote yachting and the marine lifestyle to residents in Asia, as well as promote the region to the world. Competitive sailing is a niche sport in terms of TV coverage and the Internet is allowing sailing to reach a larger audience and events are seeing the benefits of IPTV as a cost-effective way to reach new, targeted markets.

The remit is the marine scene in Asia in its broadest sense. This will include not only regattas and boat shows, but also the latest happenings in Asia's industry, destinations, facilities and elements of the marine lifestyle.

Combining IPTV with distribution through Social Media allows Marine Scene Asia to provide sponsors and advertisers with a targeted marketing platform that is supported by detailed independent statistics, something unavailable from traditional TV broadcasters.

About KTA
The KTA was formed to give an international platform to the skills and talents of kiteboarders throughout Asia, and to bring professional level competition and training to the region. The KTA launched the first international tour of its kind in Asia in September 2009 visiting five countries over the 2009/2010 season. It was back again for the 2010/11 season with a second five stop tour and a new range of national level, stand alone, open events.

This is set to continue as its 2011/2012 season get underway, which as well as the Asian Championship Tour will be seeing the first Asian Course Race Championship event, new KTA Race Centre's and further developments in support of national level competitions.

The KTA is open to everyone from anywhere, amateur and pro riders alike. It is the one and only officially Asian continental tour sanctioned by the International Kiteboarding Association, the kitesurfing world governing body, which in turn is the class representative to the International Sailing Federation sanctioning international sailing competitions from world championship to Olympic levels.

KTA's philosophy is to start slow and grow steadily. We are focused on giving homegrown riders the opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of being part of an international competition scene. Our hopes are to provide a stepping-stone for the region's best riders onto the World tour scene by giving them the full experience of high level competition at a more local level, and who knows, maybe in the process discover a future world champion.
