A GROUP of monks walked around the markets of Phuket City today at the conclusion of 10 days of penance atop the Big Buddha hill.
People gave everything from large pumpkins to cool drinks as the 37 monks walked in single file past McDonald's near Robinson, through the local market and then up Phuket Road and on to the site of the old fresh fruit and vegetable market.
The monks were completing 10 days of celebration and prayer that began on December 1.
Phuketwan went with them to record the images in this Photo Album.
A total of 294 monks have been staying on the summit of Nakkerd Hill, close to the Big Buddha.
Tomorrow morning between 6.30am and 7.30am, 99 monks will seek alms around the Thairod Market, also known as ChaoFa Variety Weekend Market.

Ha ha! Nice photo. I wonder, did Ronnie hand the monks some Big Macs? He probably should have, as I imagine McD's is short a few merit points in the karmic scale...
