Successful Premier League club Muang Thong United has rejected the ''gift'' of the FC Phuket brand because the club realises FC Phuket belongs to Phuket and its fans, FC Phuket consultant Pitboon Chutimakornkun revealed today.
He said the club will compete in Division One this coming season under the care of general manager Wilak Lothong, son of the owner of Siam Sport and Muang Thong United.
Support has been promised to continue to play home games on Phuket and to pay players and club officials.
At the same time, Khun Pitboon said, a second ''Phuket Town'' team will be launched to play in the Division Two southern league.
''The intention is to give Phuket the high football profile it deserves,'' said Khun Pitboon.
The two-team approach should give fans plenty to cheer.
Phuketwan remains a firm supporter of Phuket football and hopes that the island's football followers have quality teams to watch next season that abide by the same code as all successful clubs do around the world.
No violence, no racism, no foul language. Win the family followers by doing the right thing, and Phuket can do very well in any grade of football.
Misleading photo, the only reason I read this article...and it has nothing to do with what the photos suggests.
I thought PhuketWan prided itself on its journalistic standards. Disappointed.

The photograph has everything to do with Phuket football and the need for it to comply with international standards of behavior. Would you believe there are some people on Phuket who think ''a little bit of bovver'' at the football is acceptable? At Phuketwan, we can tell right from wrong. Plenty of others pretend they can. We'd digitally alter the photograph to replace ANFIELD with PHUKET but that would be deception.
