PATONG comes alive with the annual carnival this year extending across six days and designed to showcase traditional Thai culture.
So from December 15 to December 20, get ready to see a different side of Phuket's premier holiday resort.
Plenty of action will take place on a stage at Loma Park, right on the beachfront.
Stretching along the seashore will be various zones, containing One village one product oulets, Thai local cuisine and seafood, a section for Thai art and culture and another for Thai massage and spa.
There will be not one but two parades, one on the opening night and one to close the carnival.
Special parking areas have been designated throughout Patong. Look out for the signs.
December 15
Fireworks will be part of the opening night's entertainment, but the carnival begins in a more traditional way at 9am with a blessing ceremony in front of the main stage.
The booths will open from 10am. At 5pm, a parade will march along the beach road to the stage at Loma Park.
Thousands are expected to turn out to watch what should be the most colorful procession seen on the island.
The sky will light up with fireworks after the arrival of dignitaries to the opening ceremony at 6.39pm followed by dancing performances from all parts of Thailand, and music from folk bands and military bands.
The show goes until 11pm.
