Specialty: pinacolada (but perhaps not for breakfast)

What Phuketwan says: Eating within a 150 baht tuk-tuk ride of Soi Bangla actually doesn't get you very far: we are perhaps a brisk five-minute walk away from Patong's throbbing nightlife heart. Just about everything in Patong, for many the main holiday destination, is a little on the expensive side. One of the exceptions to that rule, MoMo offers four-star food at a rational price. This was our third MoMo meal. Each of the three Courtyards by Marriott on the island has a MoMo restaurant but the one in Patong is the largest and it has a European sidewalk streetscape ambience. There are tables and chairs on the verandah or inside, where the passing parade can be viewed through large picture windows. The menu is bright and varied, with a smattering of Thai choices from Isarn. Staff are well-trained and obliging. Because it's a little away from the popular nightlife heart, it's a good spot for a quiet, romantic dinner. At one end of the building is the set-to-open Hard Rock Cafe, which will make MoMo a pleasant place to eat before a night out or part the way through one. If you want to see MoMo with other diners, check it out at breakfast time. The fresh baked bread was scrumptious. As beer-drinking is a popular tropical pastime, we always look for beer prices on the drinks menus. There were none that we could see. And while a ''coconut water'' comes at 75 baht, we could not find a fresh young coconut on the menu. Fresh young coconut is really essential for any tropical island restaurant, otherwise, well, you might as well still be in Europe. The MoMos at Kamala and Surin apply the same high standards.

How to find it: On a corner neighboring the Holiday Inn on Rat Uthit 200 Pi Road, there's a huge guitar outside the hard Rock Cafe. MoMo is a short walk away, down the road towards Patong beach (Romjai Road).

Parking: OTOP carpark off Rat U Thit 200 Pi Road at the resort's eastern end. Street parking in front of the hotel or an attendant out front can move your car if the keys are in it.

Does "The MoMos at Kamala and Surin apply the same high standards." mean they have the same price? "reasonable by Patong standards" does not compare well with the real figures, I fear :-( which means it's quite expensive in my view.

Editor: Any review that doesn't mention prices is not very helpful because for most of us, cost is the key. It's a four-star restaurant, and prices are similar at Surin and Kamala.
