What Phuketwan says: Open for lunch and dinner with the same straightforward two-page menu, the Boathouse Regatta offers mostly new creations that fans of the original Boathouse Wine & Grill in Kata will find familiar. We chose a fairly heavy lunch, sampling the crab meat and rock lobster ravioli appetizers and young salad with Parmesan, followed by the stuffed chicken breast and Phuket sole for the main course. Some upscale dining spots can be a bit stingy, preferring decoration over nourishment, but in this regard Regatta did not disappoint. The serving sizes were robust, the rich sauces applied generously. Our disappointment was only in ourselves for not choosing a more balanced meal. Even so, we managed to squeeze in some dessert, trying the baby blinis and lemon curd tart, wonderful creamy concoctions. Every dish from start to finish was fresh and lively; the chicken breast in particular was seasoned to succulent perfection. There was a bit of nervous eagerness to the service that led to a misunderstanding - the salad arrived with the appetizers though a request had been made to serve it with the mains - but things will probably settle down as the new team comes together. Overall, Boathouse Regatta offers diners with the cash to spend a host of creative dishes and a great setting, a combination that has made its Kata Beach cousin such a long-running success.
How to find it: On the waterfront at Royal Phuket Marina, just north of the bypass road intersection on Thepkrassatri (airport) Road. No signage pointing to the restaurant at all, but easy to find in a short walk from the car park. Just head towards the moored boats beyond the marina sales office and fountain and see the restaurant to the right.
Parking: Plenty of parking at the marina's main car park, including underground parking.
Phuketwan dined free, with the Regatta management.
