PHUKET: Fans of FC Phuket enjoyed 30 minutes of daydreaming about a possible victory before Sompong Soleb ''did a Messi'' all over them today.
At the 30-minute mark, the Bangkok United No. 24 scored the first of what would become a hat-trick of the kind that only exalted players are able to achieve at any level of football.
Had Bangkok United been playing with a 10-man side in Thailand's First Division, a side that excluded Sompong, the Phuket Hulks may have stood a chance.
With him in the team, though, the match at Surakul Stadium in Phuket City became a cake walk after that first daydream-filled half-hour.
As though playing to the clock, Sompong scored his second goal right on 60 minutes. FC Phuket 0, Sompong 2.
Earth Hour 60+? That was the previous night. Tonight, in just 60 minutes, Sompong blacked out FC Phuket . . . in broad daylight.
At that point, some FC Phuket supporters drifted off, deciding they had more important things to do, like fixing that big leak in the ceiling at home, paying those overdue large bills or making an appointment to visit the dentist.
Sompong, however, not content with a double, waited just a short time before converting goal number three at the 70-minute mark. And so it was Sompong Hour 60+.
Diehard details fans will note that in the equivalent game last season, FC Phuket trumped Bangkok United 1-0.
With the season's results for FC Phuket so far reading draw, draw, win, loss, fans may be set for another turbulent ride. Time to switch off the lights and walk away?
