Open: When Central is open, so is the Food Terrace
Address: Tucked away a little, alongside the cinema complex on the top floor.
Style: Food court a la Thai
Price range:Moderate, the best value for sure in the shopping mall
Specialty: Local food actually is done reasonably well here.
What Phuketwan says: Shopping seems to be one of those things people feel compelled to do on holidays (look, they have aisles and shelves here too). And eating? Well, after a fantastic purchase, you just have to achieve some oral satisfaction. The Food Terrace is fine if you don't happen to strike it on a day when it's packed with carefully starved school children. It's quite a good place to start delving into the delights of Thai food, within your comfort zone. The food stalls in the street can follow. We are puzzled, though, why there seem to be two attendants at the card counter but only one ever seems to be working, and why people cashing in used cards have to join the queue with the hungry. And most of all, why did a security guard try to stop us taking a photograph? ''No focus'' he said. Perhaps he was just trying to give us good advice. Or maybe there is genuine concern about industrial spying. ''Golly, they have fried eggs on sale with just about everything.''
How to find it: On the Bypass Road, stop at the big, big building and take the elevator up as far as you can.
Parking: Underground and as far as the eye can see. How many spaces do you need?
