PHUKET: A 1-0 victory rated by fans today as one of Phuket FC's best wins yet has put Phuket in second position on its mission to win promotion to Premier League.
The goal by Kritsada Sakaew at the 80-minute mark against TTM Lopburi FC in Bangkok gave Phuket two wins in its past two Division One games after beginning the season with two draws.
Now on eight points, Phuket FC holds second position with BBCU FC, but has scored more goals.
In top spot is Singha Tarua FC, which has yet to skip a beat and has won four games straight.
The top four sides in the 18-team Division One competition gain promotion at season's end to Thailand's Premier League.
In its first season in Division One, Phuket narrowly escaped relegation. However, the island club appears set for a much better result in its second season.
Just this week, construction was announced of a 10 million baht Phuket FC training centre in southern Phuket. Phuket's new home will incorporate both real turf and artificial surfaces, a swimming pool and a fitness centre.
A large crowd can be expected to turn out at Phuket FC's home ground, Surakul Stadium in Phuket City, for the next match against Rajchavavy FC on Sunday at 6.30pm.
The winning thing appears to be catching. Phuket's primary school age youth team enjoyed a 5-0 win over Surat Thani.
