THE STYLISH Acqua restaurant held an opening party last night for about 200 guests at Kalim Bay, just north of Patong.
Acqua is owned by executive chef Alessandro Frau, who was formerly at the Sheraton Grande Laguna.
Last night, when not talking about the food and wine, plenty of guests turned the conversation to to Phuket's resorts, staff jobs and the coming fortunes of 2009.
The restaurant is bold and classy and a symbol of Kalim's emergence as a bright alternative to Patong. Many people expect Kalim to emerge as a rival to Surin, further to the north, as more upmarket boutique resorts open there.
Coffee and cake seem to be a key attraction at Acqua, as well as alcoholic beverages.
