A lucky scrape as the container flips and just misses a car on Patong Hill

Ten-Wheel Terror as Truck Flips on Phuket's Patong Hill: Car Escapes Crushing

Tuesday, October 29, 2013
PHUKET: A 10-wheel truck flipped as it proceeded down towards the coast on Patong Hill just before noon today, leaving traffic in chaos once more. The truck, carrying a container, must have left oncoming drivers terrified - especially the people in a car that was almost crushed. But police said nobody was hurt. Delays are expected to continue until the Durbell truck is hauled upright and moved. The truck driver has been charged with careless driving.

See another one,,, just put the tunnel through the hill and be done with this madness on this hill,,, luck this time but won't be long before someone gets hurt again,, stuff the people complaining about loosing some land just pay them out,, lives are better than a bit of land,,

@Sean
The madness will start with the tunnel if you know just a little bit about tunnel safety and systems. God help the 100's of souls which might perish in a single accident inside a tunnel...

Racing down Patong Hill has became a quite popular sport among truck and bus drivers.

I saw the sedan, it's a miracle that it was not damaged more.

This is a mountain road, so perhaps time to demand some education concerning mountain driving, for drivers of heavy vehicles, before letting them lose on roads like Patong Hill.

I have wonder aloud again why nobody has even suggested flattening the mountain around the Chinese temple and using the soil to elevate the road crossing the valley on the Patong side.

Take 30 to 40 m off the peak and the incline on both sides becomes infinitely less hazardous and the cost is a fraction of what a tunnel would incur.

The most expensive part would be securing the mountain sides from collapsing on the road. Other than that, it's very simple and straightforward.

Maybe it's too cheap to yield enough tea money to be interesting to the local government to even consider.

Put a tunnel through the hill yeah right, how about finishing the third road first

MR,,K,, I have been through many tunnels in my life,, and i drive through one every day in perth,, when you build them you have doors in the walls which has a walk way to the end of the tunnel,, so all you do is open the door and walk to safety ,,, Not hard is it,, and the tunnel would be straight through about 1 and a half KMs long,,

Patong hill again..! May be its the time to think over , if the road is not suitable ? may be some adjustment need to take place ? may be its not about only the drivers ?
