THALANG Road in Phuket City continues to set an example for hole-drillers and ditch-diggers the world over.

Almost every day, there's a new piece of work going on. Yet, somehow, the traffic manages to snake around the various holes and channels that are being carved in the old road.

November remains the planned completion date when all the work should be finished.

By that stage, at a cost of 20 million baht, pipes carrying electricity, telephone and water should all be laid underground.

The old, shuttered Sino-Portuguese homes along the road will certainly look much better once the chaotic tangle of the various lines are no longer in the way of tourists' lenses.

The plan is for the success of the holes and ditches in Thalang Road to eventually be extended to Dibuk Road, Thepkasattri Road, Phang Nga Road and Yaowarat Road in the Phuket Town zone.
