A MAN wanted over a killing outside a Phuket nightspot surrendered to police today and pleaded his innocence.
Jumpon Tongkam, 24, walked in to Chalong Police Station in southern Phuket to hand himself over in connection with the shooting of Wichit Wongaun, 28, about 4.30am on October 7.
Khun Jumpon said it could not have been him - he was in Nakhonsithammarat with family for a temple festival. He was charged with murder and allowed bail of 500,000 baht.
Khun Wichit, enjoying a night out with friends, went outside the Say Yes club, not far from Chalong Circle, to smoke a cigarette early on October 7.
Police said that Khun Wichit was shot in the back by a killer using a weapon known as a thai pradit, a homemade handgun that fires nine bullets at once. Seven bullets hit Khun Wichit's back, graphic photographs seen by Phuketwan reveal.
It is believed the killing may have been over a dispute Khun Wichit had with another group of drinkers at a different nightspot earlier in the evening.
