A LARGE yacht burned and sank in spectacular fashion off Chalong Pier on Phuket's east coast last night. Crowds watched from shore as the boat blazed.
Today, there was no sign of wreckage. First reports said the yacht was the Gaudi.
Police at Phuket's Chalong station, a few hundred metres from the pier, were waiting to hear from the yacht's owner.
At least two owners of yachts moored off Phuket's popular Chalong pier have offered rewards lately after a spate of as many as 12 thefts from vessels.
