"The average price of a villa on Phuket dropped by 14 percent to 50.3 million baht (US$1.6 million) in the first quarter from 59 million baht ($1.89 million) last year" Wow!!! Are those prices a misprint, a statistic, a dream or just a bit of plain old "puffery"?

The case of a pilot in Brisbane, Australia, prosecuted for photographing nude toddlers on the bank of a swimming lagoon raises interesting and troubling questions.

As I understand it, taking photographs in public places is mostly legal.

Presumably it has also been legal for parents to change the clothes of their small children in public, or to allow them to be nude, as many have done at Southbank Parklands (as I know from experience). I don't object to that, but one wonders about their behavior. Could some be accused putting their children on display?

The pilot was charged with breaching the privacy of a child. Could it be said that the parents started it?

It would be most interesting to hear the opinions of journalists and editors generally, especially as Phuket Wan and other media outlets have published photos of boys undergoing circumcision.

Editor Comment:

No, the parents could not be accused of ''putting their children on display.'' The nude human form is not the problem: how it's perceived in the minds of onlookers may sometimes be a cause for concern, as the judge determined in this unusual case. If we happened to publish photographs of shoes, the images could be said to encourage shoe fetishists. We intend to continue publishing photographs of shoes . . . even though we actually prefer bare feet.
