PHUKET has a new governor - Tree Ackaradecha, the senior among three existing Vice Governors of Phuket. His appointment was announced in a fax from the Department of the Interior in Bangkok today.
Like his predecessor, Khun Tree will be a short-term appointment. He is due to take early retirement next year. Khun Tree, 59, has a masters degree in management from the US and has been on Phuket as vice governor for four years.
Another senior Phuket Vice Governor, Treerayut Eamtakul, has been appointed Governor of the southern province of Surat Thani.
Forty-eight of Thailand's 77 governors are to be changed under the new appointments announced today. Twenty-one of the positions are filled by people who are first-time governors.
Earlier reports indicated that the appointments might be delayed until the appointment of a new Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry. This proved not to be the case.
