Phuket Tourist Dies in Stairway Fall at Patong Resort

Tuesday, March 6, 2012
UPDATE

The Australian tourist who died in a fall on Tuesday at a Patong resort has been named as Robert Francis Mullaly.

Original Report

PHUKET: An Australian tourist visiting Phuket fell to his death on a stairway at a resort in Patong early today, police have revealed.

The man, aged 47, returned with his wife to the Pacific Light Hotel, off Rat-U-Tit 200 Pee Road, about 5am.

The couple's room was on the fourth floor, police said. As the woman walked on ahead, having reached the fourth floor, she heard a thud behind her.

Her husband had missed a step and had fallen. He hit his head and died on the stairway, police said.

An officer at Kathu police station, which oversees the Patong area, said today that security camera footage from the resort confirmed the woman's statement.

He said the couple had been drinking. They had arrived on Phuket on Sunday, he said.
