Phuket Teens Find Trouble: 121 Test Positive for Drugs

Wednesday, April 24, 2013
PHUKET: Checkpoints across all three Phuket districts last night targetted people under 18 and a total of 121 teenagers tested positive for drugs.

The young riders or pilion passengers were all made to take tests in Kathu, Thaland and Muang (Phuket City) districts.

There's increasing concern across Phuket at the potential social problems that arise when youngsters do not have sufficient parental control.

Those who were apprehended last night will have to undergo courses at Phuket rehab centres as a result.

Authorities on Phuket are taking a proactive approach in an effort to prevent needless criminal activity.

The lack of parental guidance and discipline is painfully obvious but considering how little regard to the laws and rules there is among the adult population, it's little wonder the young adapt a similar attitude.

When you see that even police officers break the law, how can you possibly expect the youth to be any different.

Lead by example.

I remember when i first started coming to Thailand i was always warned never get involved in drugs in this country as the consequences could be dire - but it seems that leniency has started to creep in to Thailand and zero tolerance seems to have disappeared.

I agree with Khun Prem and Stephen - the behaviour of teenagers around Kamala in general on a daily basis is disgraceful and the parents don't seem to care. Gangs racing up and down the main street with unmuffled bikes pulling wheelies and dashing into traffic without looking but it's the other drivers' fault when there is an accident as they are the offspring of 'powerful men'. Time for the parents to get a grip but as a lot of them don't seem to know better themselves I'll remain optimistically pessimistic!

121 seems to me a large number to fail the test. Any idea how many test's were performed?

Cant fault this very positive report usually read of only stopping farangs at checkpoints without helmets on motorbikes and thais no problem, this is optimistic and heartening indeed salutations to the new police chief.
