A man and a boy were injured when a tree fell on the Patong-Kamala road

Phuket Storms Topple Tree, Two Hurt: Traffic Chaos in Weather Warning

Sunday, May 27, 2012
UPDATE

TRAFFIC was flowing again as normal on the Kamala Patong road before noon, Kamala Police Superintendent Colonel Natapakin Kawnchaiprak told Phuketwan.

Original Report

PHUKET: Reports are coming of a tree in Kamala falling and injuring people as a weather warning advises small boats to stay on shore and predicts the risk of floods in 14 provinces.

Two people injured in the tree fall are being taken to hospital. Police are warning motorists to avoid the coast road between Patrong and Kamala,

Parts of Phuket City lost power twise in two hours as storms lashed Phuket.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued floods warnings today for 14 Thai provinces and small boats have been advised not to venture out to sea where waves of two to three metres pose too much danger.

Phuket is not one of the 14 provinces for which floods warnings were issued but the warnings apply to neighboring Andaman provinces of Phang Nga and Ranong - and the advice for small boats applies to all Andaman Sea provinces.

The floods warning extend from today through to Wednesday.

Last night's Phuket Games 2012 opening to mark the 28th National Youth Games impressed onlookers at Surakul Stadium on Phuket City and was carried off over two and a half spectacular hours with barely a drop of rain.
