Phuket Steps Up Safety, Security Checks at Entry Point, Ferry Pier

Saturday, April 11, 2015
PHUKET: Phuket province has stepped up security measures after a car bomb on Samui island and a fire at a cooperative in nearby Surat Thani Province last night.

Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong revealed that the province seriously intended to offer all travelers the highest safety of both land and maritime transport.

Phuket Police have been inspecting all vehicles particularly pickup trucks at Tachatchai exit-entry checkpoint. Simultaneously the Third Naval Area Command oversees security at Phuket International Airport while extra voluntary naval officers are added to supervise water-splashing zones.

Rassada Pier in Phuket City was also inspected by Phuket's governor. All public ships and ferries are ordered not to take excessive numbers of passengers and all of the passengers on board must wear life jackets. Fire extinguishers must be in ready-to-use condition.

Today at Rassada Pier, there are a great number of Thai and foreign tourists taking ferries from Phuket to Phi Phi Island. Most of them are still satisfied with the security measures of the government and confident in using transport services.

Volunteer your services. ''Could'' and ''probably'' don't count for much. Commenters are full of those.

There's no such thing as "volunteering" in Thailand for foreigners without a work permit.

Even just sitting at the board meetings of condo owners can get you deported, as they did to a Canadian man a few years back near the airport.

The Thai management company did not like him digging into their business practices so they made a few phone calls and he was gone.

In addition, if I'm not mistaken, engineering jobs are reserved for Thai nationals only so no chance of getting a work permit even if you tried.

If Thailand was serious about tourist safety, they would allow international inspectors to do a thorough survey or related vessels, vehicles, buildings and practices.

At least we are lucky enough to have ICAO and hopefully FAA dig up the dirt DCA has been covering up but only when put up against the wall after 10y of unheeded warnings.
