Saturday, April 11, 2015
PHUKET: The names of the seven people injured when a bomb blast ripped through a car park at the Central Festival Samui shopping mall on the popular holiday island last night have been released.

The injured, who were taken for treatment at the Bangkok Hospital Samui, include a 12-year-old Italian girl who has been named as Valentina Di Gregorio.

Her injuries are reported to be not serious.

Others injured when the Honda Jazz exploded are:

Sudarat Deekeaw, 32
Ratthichai Pebkeaw, 33
Thidarat Choorat, 40
Santipan Meenet, 22
Arisara Krongkewa, 22
Saowanee Jansub, 33

The Chief of the Royal Thai Police flew from Bangkok to Samui today to head the investigation into the blast and a fire at a mainland Co-Op which broke out about the same time.

Suspicion has fallen on southern insurgents who have conducted a bombing and killing camapign in which 6000 people have died in Thailand's far south for more than a decade.

Samui is, however, hundreds of kilometres from the troubled zone.

Thailand's New Year holiday celebrations - extending until next Thursday - celebrations began last night.
