A collision involving a small construction truck carrying workers was followed by a fire today that left 15 people in two Phuket hospitals, including four monks.

The crash with a pickup carrying the monks took place on Patak Road, the east-west link from Chalong to Karon, in Phuket's south, near the turnoff to the hilltop Plub Pla Resort and Restaurant, about 4pm.

Victims of the crash, some with burns, are being treated in Vachira Hospital, with others in Phuket International Hospital. Both hospitals are in Phuket City.

Details are still coming to hand, but one source says the workers are all Thais.

The truck, carrying workers from Movenpick Resort on the beachfront in Karon, was heading towards Chalong Circle. Inflammable material on the truck burst into flames. Both vehicles were burned.

Traffic backed up for long distances in both directions while the flames were extinguished and victims removed from the scene.

This evening, two of the injured were reported to be still in a critical condition. Four others were categorised as serious.

Flammable material on the back ?? Wow have you seen the many motorcycles riding down the busy Thepkasattri Road with an LPG Gas container, positioned behind the rider, held on only by an elastic bungy cord? Take about a kamikazi Thai Bomb?

And that is nothing compared to what may happen in Chalong Bay with all speedboats lined up along the beach, each boat with at least 500 up to 1000 liters of highly inflammable benzine.

Some local folks are filling up the speedboats with a truck delivery.
The day one speedboat will get on fire, all may burn up in a tragic accident and victims may be in big numbers.
