LAGUNA Holiday Club of Phuket has made a second donation valued at 100,000 baht under its corporate social responsibility project to Baan Fueng Fah Home for Disabled Babies at Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, near Bangkok.

LHC Assistant Vice President, Jerry Van Paassen thanked LHC members for their continuing contributions to this program. Members pay US$1 when they renew membership or join, which is matched by LHC.

Mr Van Paassen said: ''We can see what a help our contribution is to these young people who need extra assistance. Anything companies like LHC can do to make their lives easier is well worth the effort. I commend and thank our members for their ongoing support.''

Bangkok office staff travelled to the home in March to hand over a wide selection of goods that BFF had indicated was necessary. These included:

5094 Pampers in all sizes; 300 polo shirts, 200 shorts, 300 pairs of shoes, a blender, clippers and scissors, 12 batches of 400gm of milk powder and 12 of 900gm milk powder, five boxes of electrolyte beverage; four suction and compressor compliances; 10 sets of drawing paper, and one banner.

LHC's first donation to assist 400 children in 2010 included milk powder for children aged one to three years; condensed milk, diapers, drugs and a first aid kit, clothes and shoes, toys for children with skill and physical disabilities, a baby couch, a television, a refrigerator, a food grinder and food mixer and fans for the walls and ceilings.

Kit Whalley, Business Development Director, who delivered the donated materials along with Bangkok staff, said: ''The staff and kids were, as ever, very happy to see us and were very grateful for the donation.''

The 400 mentally handicapped, deaf and blind children up to the age of seven are totally dependent on the staff and outside donations to complement government funding, which does not cover all of BFF's needs.

Why did LHC choose the Bangkok home for its CSR program? David Campion, Group Director, CSR Operations at Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, which will oversee the project, explained: ''LHC has chosen Baan Fuang Fah after extensive research, including visiting the orphanage and also two others to assess their suitability to be the beneficiary of the CSR program.

''Our clear impression was that while Baan Fuang Fah undoubtedly needed more support for its operations, it was also well-administered and the maintenance of the facility was very good, given the limited resources.''

About Baan Fueng Fah: Baan Fueng Fah is a state orphanage that provides care for mentally challenged newborns until they reach the age of seven. Understaffed and under-equipped, the home needs many kinds of assistance.
