PHUKET: Escape was on the mind of a man who knew he could be in trouble if he was stopped at a surprise Phuket police checkpoint today.
Subtawee Srisuwan, 27, pulled his red-plate car to a halt short of the checkpoint in Phuket City this afternoon and made a run for it on foot.
Officers responded by searching the car, a Toyota, and taking possession of a .38 handgun and 10 grams of methamphetamine ya ice they found in the vehicle.
Then they pursued the car's fleeing driver, up hill and down dale, and as it happened, through a drain or two.
Eventually spotted with just his face above water in a Kuku pond, Khun Subtawee was handcuffed before he left the water and treated none too gently on the way back to Phuket City police station.
His two hour run-for-it was over. Officers even undid his belt buckle, just to make sure that if he fled again, his pants would fall down.
Officers also found 10 slightly soggy ya bah tablets in his shorts.

After that gold shop murder and the assassination thru the car window murder i'd say this fellow can expect to be interviewed at the police station vigorously as a possible suspect and rightly so.
