PHUKET: Marine Police have joined the search for a person who disappeared from a live-aboard dive boat heading from Phuket towards the Similan islands in darkness early today.

The captain of the Chontara I contacted Marine Police on Phuket at 10am today to report that one person from the vessel had been lost overboard.

The hunt for the person began when they went missing at 4am, Marine police were told. It's not clear whether the missing person is a diver or crew.

The Chontara I left Phuket at midnight bound for the Similan islands.

According to what Marine Police were told, the person was reported missing about 17 miles off the coast of Bang Tao beach on Phuket.

Kusoldharm Foundation search and rescue paramedics were travelling with Marine Police on board vessel MP814.

There is no word yet on how many people were on board the Chontara I or whether a night dive had been planned on the way to the Similan islands.

Person went missing at 4am and Marine Police was contacted at 10am ?

Seems like a lot of valuable time was lost before the proper authorities were alerted.
