Police, not wild horses, dragged a confession from Wiruj Sudtua

Phuket Killing: Assassin Caught Selling Fish

Friday, October 15, 2010
AN ASSASSIN who gunned down a ''black'' business rival on Phuket was arrested while selling fish at his mother's market stall, police said today.

Wiruj ''Beer'' Sudtua, 26, was ambitious and the leading henchman for a Patong businessman who had both legal and illegal dealings, officers at Thung Tong Police Station said.

Then along came Pornsak ''Jame'' Thongbaiyai, who also hailed from the province of Nakkorn Sri Thammarat.

Ambition drove the two to heated arguments that escalated until on April 15, Khun Beer caught up with Khun Jame at 3.30am at a house off Wichit Songkram Road and pumped five bullets into him.

Khun Beer, who confessed to the killing, was caught on Wednesday selling fish at his mother's market stall in Nakkorn Sri Thammarat.

A second man, Eakkapab Thaisuwan, is wanted in connection with the killing, but Khun Beer said it was entirely his doing.

If he was working for a 'Patong businessman' with illegal dealings, and the police know this, why not go for the boss ??

Or is he a well connected 'businessman' ??

They probably have, but getting a murderer off the streets could be considered a priority.

Editor - some consistency please.

From another story "Accused drug pusher, please."

You did mean "alleged murderer, please."?

Flame on :-)

Editor Comment:

The man who committed the murder confessed to the crime. Once a person says 'I did it' it's no longer an allegation.

Err... Editor your quote from the other story continued "...most sensible people wait to hear what the court decides about the guilt or innocence of the person involved. Police do get it wrong sometimes."

As do editors :-)

Editor Comment:

When someone confesses to a crime, they move from being ''alleged killer'' to ''confessed killer.'' If we hear someone say: ''I killed him,'' we rely on the evidence of our ears. Confessed criminals can change their plea in court, but we report what they say as being what they mean at the time. I fail to see any inconsistency.

I should also point out that the opinion of anyone who chooses to remain anonymous on this site has even less value than those who use multiple tags.

But more relevant, your lack of identity. Going back through the history of the world, I can find no changes, large or small, credited to 'Anonymous.'
