Coping in Krabi: Villagers ford a raging run-off late last month

Phuket Helping Thai South Floods Victims

Wednesday, April 6, 2011
THE PHUKET Tourist Association is selling donated packages from resorts, spas, tour groups and popular Phuket nightspots to help raise 1.5 million baht for the flood victims in southern Thailand.

People who wish to help can also enjoy a Phuket break or a spot of luxury in return.

For 2000 baht, donors enter a draw for accommodation of three days and two nights at Phuket resorts. For 1000 baht, the draw is for spas, tours and tickets to shows including FantaSea.

The draws take place at Siam Paragon in Bangkok on Saturday.

More than two million people have so far been affected by the floods, with the death toll already passing 50. Many of the staff at Phuket resorts come from the south and have relatives and friends who have been affected.

Helicopter drops of rice and other food are still being carried out in some areas, even though the weather on Phuket has returned to high season blue skies.

Those who wish to help are asked to call the PTA for details on 076 610365-6.
