PHUKET: Phuket has two new Vice Governors and one of them is a woman. Both new Vice Governors will start work on Phuket from Monday.
Dr Sommai Preechasin, 57, told Phuketwan tonight that she had been to Phuket two or three times as a tourist and understood that her role on Phuket would be very different to her role as vice governor in the Isarn province of Mukdahan.
''I will take a flight to Phuket tomorrow and start working at 9am on Monday by introducing myself to Governor Tri Augkaradacha,'' she said. ''I'm quite excited.''
Dr Sommai has a PhD in education management.She is not just the first female Vice Governor on Phuket in modern times but the first ever, Phuketwan confirmed tonight, although women have been governors in other provinces.
Vice Governor Jamleran Tipayapongtada from Sisaket province will also start work on Phuket next week. He is a former chief officer at Phuket Provincial Hall.
The two appointments will come as a relief to the existing Phuket Vice Governor, Somkiet Sangkaosutthirak, who has been officiating at events with the Governor.
Phuket's three Vice Governors usually have no shortage of events and issues to occupy their time on the busy tourist destination island that in Thailand's most prosperous province, and one of its most important.
