The white Phuket Electricity Authority vehicle after today's crash

Phuket Electricity Pickup Kills Two Women on Motorcycle

Saturday, July 27, 2013
PHUKET: Two women were killed when a Phuket Electricity Authority pickup crash into the motorcycle they were riding in Phuket City today.

The driver of the white Ford pickup, Peerarot Jinowat, a PEA staffer, has been arrested and was being questioned at Phuket City Police Station.

The crash about 9.30am left two women dead. They were named as sisters Warankana Angsakul, 51, a teacher at Tessaban Muang Phuket school, and Manta Angsakul.

One of the women was killed at the scene and the other died soon after, in Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Kusoldharm Foundation paramedics at the crash scene in Kuku Road, Phuket City, opposite the Kuku School, found the basket from the motorcycle stuck into the front of the pickup.

The women were five metres from the pickup and the motorcycle they were riding, a Honda Click, was another five metres away.

Witnesses said the pickup crashed into the motorcycle while attempting to overtake.

Their bodies are both at Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Phuket Public Health, which once released monthly updates on Phuket's road toll fatalities and injuries, no longer release statistics about crashes on Phuket.

Figures were last made available in April, 2012.

Erm, how did the motorcycle basket become stuck in front of the truck, if the accident happened when he was trying to overtake them? The damage (and evidence) would suggest he hit them head on.

This sort of thing happens far too often when you are riding a bike. A vehicle [in a hurry]will pass another one coming towards you and totally disregard the fact that you and probably other bikes are travelling in that lane, and often the driver seems to think that a flurry of headlight flashing makes it OK.... You are expected to make way, and because you are on a bike you have no option.Sadly these ladies didn't make way in time..RIP
I hope, but doubt he will be punished accordingly.

I live and work virtually on this road and it is shocking the way people drive down here. It is a small residential road but many people use it as a cut through to Town rather than sticking to the big main road, unfortunately they still drive like they're on a motorway. I have mentioned before that if the police took 1 or 2 hours to stand and stop not only the cars, but cement lorries and newts on their hoover bikes they could make the island a fortune in fines. It has happened here before and it will certainly happen again & again. RIP sisters!!!!!
