A KOREAN company today joined the contenders for construction of Phuket's light rail link - and a spokesman said their plans could include an extension to Patong.
Kwangsik Chun, Chairman and CEO of Jung Yong Development Corp, told Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha that the company had large amounts of financing to support the Phuket project.
Another month would provide the research needed to assess what was required for the Phuket project, he said. After talking with Governor Tri, Mr Chun had an appointment with Patong Mayor Pian Keesin.
Mr Chun invited Governor Tri and a Phuket team to go to Korea to see the light rail system there in action, and to gain a more accurate assessment of what the company offered.
Mr Chun and five colleagues met Governor Tri at Provincial Hall in Phuket City. Governor Tri said at least one other company - from China - was planning a presentation in the same timeframe.
Originally the plans for the light rail or monorail ran from Phuket International Airport to Phuket City but recent talks have also included extensions to the planned exhibition centre close to Sarasin Bridge in Phuket's north and to Chalong Circle in Phuket's south.
