CONTESTANTS in the 2009 Miss Poland contest will fly to Phuket in October to participate in the ''Polonia Preparation Camp,'' a segment of the contest that features a special program of extra-curricular activities.
The hosting of the Miss Poland 2009 campaign on the island and in Pattaya is in line with TAT's destination marketing and tourism strategies to promote the two world-class travel and holiday destinations.
During their stay, contestants will have the chance to learn Thai cooking, experience relaxing traditional spa treatments, and enjoy water sports.
TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing, Santichai Euachongprasit, said: ''With the very significant growth potential of the tourism industry in Pattaya and Phuket, this helps to stimulate the Thai economy overall.
''We plan to continue our heavy and extensive promotion of these world-renowned seaside resort cities.''
Twenty-four contestants from the various cities in Poland, together with a film crew, will be in Phuket and Pattaya from October 1-14.
Segments from Thailand will be telecast via the Miss Poland 2009 final contest on October 24.
Given the media coverage of the campaign, TAT hopes more Polish travellers will choose Thailand as their next holiday destination.
Poland remains one of the most important Eastern European markets for Thailand, along with the Czech Republic and Hungary.
The social and economic integration of Poland into the EU since 2004 has resulted in the westernisation of Poland's travel and tourism market as well as consumer habits and preferences.
In 2008, Polish visitor arrivals to Thailand totalled 27,800, an increase of 29.36 percent. They had an average length of stay of 12 days.
Samui, Krabi and Koh Lanta are also gaining popularity. Twelve Polish tour operators offer Thailand tourism products.
