At the scene as the man's body and motorcycle are recovered

'Lost' Phuket Expat Dies on Bike in Wild Weather: More On Way

The dead man has been named as Michael Anderson, 20, from Denmark.

WEATHER UPDATE

Phuket meteorologists predict that heavy rains will lash Phuket again on Friday afternoon. Residents are advised to limit travel to essential trips and avoid deep water and areas prone to landslips.

Original Report

PHUKET: The body of an expat carrying a Danish passport was found early today by villagers in Chalong, near the road up Nakkerd Hill to the Big Buddha. A Honda motorcycle was nearby.

It appears the man either hit a pole or ran off into a roadside pool of water. His body was not spotted immediately because of Phuket's wild weather, the worst in eight years.

Locals believe the man may have been an overnight victim of flooding that caused chaos in many areas of Phuket yesterday, leaving some residents of Chalong with homes still awash with water last night.

The man's body, spotted at 8.30am, was being taken to Vachira Hospital in Phuket City today where doctors will determine the cause of death.

In Patong's Soi Bangla walking street yesterday, a 20-year-old British man was electrocuted and friends narrowly avoided a similar fate.

He was named today as Charles Antony Thomas. Embassy officials have notified his family.

Today in Chalong, south of Phuket City, about 100 residents of Baan Pakded Moo 4 continued to clear floodwaters from their houses, with most choosing to sleep at temples or in temporary accommodation.

Today, with more rain forecast, Phuket authorities will be assessing the full scale of the damage on the island yesterday. Patong was especially hard-hit by the floods. Flights to and from Phuket were rescheduled, delayed or diverted for a period of about 70 minutes.

Power outages were suffered across large areas of the west coast from Kata Noi to Kamala, with landslips toppling two houses in central Kathu and the prospect of more today.
