A MAN was killed yesterday in a crash on the Phuket hill that claimed 15 victims in a collision and blaze earlier this week.
Karon Hill became a contender for Patong Hill's title of the most notorious stretch of road on Phuket when the truck overturned, scattering its load of full gas cylinders across Patak Road.
The brakes of the truck, which had brought the gas cylinders from Phang Nga to Phuket, failed as the vehicle headed down the hill towards Karon about 2.30pm.
The truck overturned, crushing passenger Apichat Leenarong, 23, in the driver's cabin. The driver was seriously injured and is in Phuket City's Vachira Hospital.
The crash came about 100 metres from the scene of a collision between a truck and a pickup earlier in the week. A blaze that followed that crash seriously burned seven passengers from the truck. Fifteen people required treatment at two Phuket hospitals.
The road from southern Phuket's Chalong Circle over Karon Hill has recently been widened and resurfaced.
On Sunday morning, Australian tourist Adam John Sutcliffe, 32, died on Patong Hill in a collision with another motorcycle. Two men on the other motorcycle were seriously hurt.
