The casual Jack Beach Resort: staff are ''horrified'' by a double murder

Brutal Killing of British Expat, Wife at Resort: Police Accuse Guard, Cook and Fisherman

Wednesday, March 14, 2012
PHUKET: A British expat resident and his Thai wife were brutally murdered at a small Thai tourist resort for 200 baht and a mobile telephone, police said today.

Officers arrested the security guard, a chef and a local fisherman over the killing of Michael Raymond, 68, and his wife Suchada Bonkamdi, 52, early yesterday morning.

The fisherman told police that he heard noise coming from the couple's bungalow at the tiny resort in Prachuap Khiri Khan, south of Bangkok. He thought the couple must be making love and did not sound the alarm.

A maid went to the room yesterday at 3.30pm after the couple failed to appear.

The body of Mr Raymond, dressed only in brown shorts, was found near a sofa with his face and head savagely beaten. His wife, dressed only in a pink top, was found with similar wounds near the refrigerator.

Police believe the killers wanted cash but the couple only had 200 baht and a mobile telephone. The security guard and the cook have confessed but the fisherman denies involvement, officers said today.

A spokesperson for the Jack Beach Resort told Phuketwan today: ''We are shocked and horrified.

''This has always been a safe place. We have often left doors open, without fear of robbery. Now we will have to reassess the casual holiday way.''

The 17-bungalow resort on the Gulf of Thailand has been open for seven years.

The dead couple married about two years ago and had been living at Khon Kaen, not far from Bangkok, police believe. They had checked in just for the one night, the spokesperson said.

Police named the confessed killers as security guard Pongpitak Tapsawang, 29, and cook Prajak Maunjinka, 50. Fisherman Jakkarin Auyen, 30, so far denies involvement.

You'd need to ask them, JackisBack. Nothing to do with us. We're against censorship.

RIP to them, such a terrible crime. The report says they only had 200 baht but I wonder if they had gold, as they were married.

Definition - Censorship is the suppression of speech or other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient to the general body of people as determined by a government, media outlet, or other controlling body.

Yeah... PhuketWan is really against Censorship....

Editor Comment:

Censorship is what happens when real people with real opinions find their view are suppressed. Best not to confuse this with online graffiti and self-deception. You are, as ever, a long way from the tragic topic of this article.

What a waste of life. Make sure no matter where you are car doors or accommodation is locked.

if indeed it was the security guard together with another employee, locking the door won't make much difference. An inside job of any nature is hard to prevent short of wedging the door from inside. Even safety chains can be cut with tools once the door is open a fraction.

Another murder in Hua hin, what is happening? There are certain restaurants no one will go to anymore, as there have been so many muggings and violence on the quiet sois. As usual, nothing is done !

Is a killing 90 kilometres from Hua Hin ''another murder in Hua Hin''? Which other murders are you talking about, elizabeth?

Have you always had the power to ignore definitions and redefine words, or did you gain this amazing ability over time? I only ask because it seems the definition and your views are completely different.

Watching you tap dance around your conflicting statements is quite amusing.

Why not just edit your comment with something like "We only like censorship when we don't agree with whats been said" - That would be a more truthful statement.

Editor Comment:

Truthfully, Joel M, we give anonymous comments by people with online aliases every regard where what's said is worthy of consideration, and little regard where the reader is clearly out to entertain himself or herself. Those who don't understand the difference between real opinions and caricature comments have our sympathy. Those who attempt to hijack threads for their own purposes are inevitably treated with disdain. Sarcasm is what people resort to once they've lost the argument, or the plot, or both.
