Fisticuffs give way to handicuffs in Soi Bangla last night

Bangla Biffo: Phuket Tourist Pair Shape Up, Told to Ship Out

Sunday, January 8, 2012
PHUKET: Dutch courage? Two young tourists from the Netherlands alarmed visitors strolling down Phuket's famous Soi Bangla last night by kick-boxing each other in the middle of the famous Patong walking street.

Their footicuffs and fisticuffs about 11pm attracted the attention of tourists and locals who gathered around, shouting, ''Fight, fight fight.''

Before long, police from Kathu Police Station turned up to referee. For a short time, Phuket police replaced the footicuffs and fisticuffs with handicuffs.

Officers told the inexpert kickboxers that they could continue their bout at Bangla Stadium, but Soi Bangla was for walking and looking, not fussing and fighting.

The pair broke off their fight peacefully and headed off into the night.

Patong police say an increasing number of calls for their assistance involve incidents where expat visitors have had too much to drink.

lame article. Poorly written, and exaggerated. What a shame piece of "writing"

Sounds like you failed journalism 101, Dan. Get a job working somewhere as an amateur?

I've noticed this year that bangla has definitely gone downhill in the type of person visiting. More fights and scuffles than ever with groups of 6 or more getting involved in altercations. In my day we just got drunk and horny, 555.

They really don't look like young Dutch tourists to me.

The one on the left looks like a typical Englishman (or maybe Welshman) and the one on the right looks like a typical French guy, complete with the usual gay clothes they wear. Therefore, definitely not Dutch, and young? They must be over 30 or even mid-30s, unless they've had a really hard-drinking, hard-smoking life, in my opinion. Get your facts straight, Mr Editor!

Mid-30s is young, Andy. Unless you're 17.

Yeah but you have to give Andy style points. I laughed because he was pretty accurate. I mean c'mon, the bald guy on the right is wearing tight fitting rolled-up cutoff jeans and a baby blue fat watch. Headline: "Dorks Skirmish".

A truly heterosexual guy NEVER coordinates his watch, his shirt and his shorts in matching color shades. I can see why this little contretemps may have broken out...

This is news?

Check the handcuffs, larry. The way expats behave on Phuket is news, just as the way they are treated as a consequence is news. Or does this kind of thing happen where you live every night?

I must be looking at the wrong photo for the 'Typical French and English guys', I was expecting to see berets and strings of garlic with bowler hats and umbrellas.
