PHUKET: An Australian visitor has died after falling ill today at an apartment block in Cherng Talay. Police believe the man, aged 38, may have suffered a heart attack.
One of Phuket's new fleet of ambulances answered an emergency call about 10.30am and paramedics attempted to keep the man alive but he died about 11am at Thalang Hospital.
He was found lying face-down on a bed by a friend who shared the apartment.
The man originally came to Phuket and stayed in Patong, said police investigator Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Boonnhongsau, of Cherng Talay station.
Two days ago he joined an Australian woman at the Chainam Apartments in Cherng Talay, the lieutenant colonel said.
Although investigations are continuing, police suspect death may have been caused by a heart attack.
The man, heavily tattooed, carried an ID from the Queensland State Government. Phuketwan has been given a name but will not publish it until relatives have been notified.
The man's body is at Thalang Hospital.
