Phuket's crowded Kalim beach . . . well, this is as crowded as it gets

Phuket Wins a 1.2b Baht Resort in 'Greater Patong'

Thursday, July 22, 2010
A NEW resort is being built in Phuket's ''Greater Patong'' region at a cost of 1250 million baht for the property and construction.

The Kalima Resort and Spa on 24 rai in the hills behind the rocky Kalim beach, north of Patong, will be a four-star with 168 rooms, each room having a sea view.

Managers at existing resorts say that while the number of tourists coming through Phuket International Airport continues to rise, the growing number of new resorts, villa developments and guesthouses outpaces the increase in potential guests.

However, new players see the future of Phuket as rosy and are now impacting on the hillsides and hinterland because the beachfront properties have been sold.

The Kalima Resort and Spa is to begin construction at the end of this year and open in 2012. Manager Panapat Niyomdul said that Phuket had come back quickly more than once from setbacks beyond its control, proving its long-term value to tourism.

Although rapidly forming its own reputation, the arc of Kalim beach is just a few minutes from Patong's more comprehensive array of nightlife options.

And the good point of Kalim Beach is you don't have to be afraid of currents, because about half of the day it is a long walk over stones to get your feet wet. Your picture must be taken during high tide... [irony on] But anyway, for sure Patong needs another 168 rooms with the shortage we have right now, and please build more resorts nobody needs.[irony off]

Title Should be Phuket loses again, 1.2b Baht Resort in 'Greater Patong'

Have they done studies to see if the incinerator can handle the trash that will be created by the building and later operating of the place? Will they have proper wastewater treatment in place? Can the road handle the traffic?

And doesn't just take away from all the other resorts? What happened to the good Governor and his resolve to stop all building?

Yeah Patong could do with another resort. Not many tourists in that part of Phuket.

Funny how the resorts are cutting each others throats with the mass surplus of rooms. Yet they continue to build more.

It is pointless to create jobs for the sake of creating jobs. Patong needs more infrastructure and restructuring. Spend the money there where it will bring more money in the long term. Failure to plan is like planning to fail.

I agree, Phuket failed to plan and it is planning to fail, cum laude.
