THE ECONOMIC crunch can empty resorts and leave hotel staff wondering whether their jobs are in danger. But there's one thing it can't damage.

Love, love, love.

Weddings on the island are still popular, with a party of more than 60 friends and family flying from Australia especially to watch a young couple get hitched at the Laguna Wedding Chapel yesterday.

Crystal Gill, daughter of well-known Phuket property project manager Phillip Gill, married Scott Clarke in memorable circumstances, and a superb setting.

Everything went fine, with miles of smiles, until after the ceremony when one of the youngest guests failed to see the fun in sitting on the back of a small elephant.

A reception for the bride and groom was held that evening at the Merlin Beach Resort, Phuket. Most of the Australian visitors are enjoying a holiday filled with plenty of familiar faces.
