MONKS at Wat Tharua, on Thepkasattri Road in central Phuket, covered their faces briefly today to publicise the availability of surgical masks at temples.
A temple ceremony, presided over by Phuket's foremost monk, Pra Suntorn Pariyattadha, was held today to promote the need for masks to be donated and distributed through Thailand's wats.
Ten thousand masks were blessed at Wat Tharua but many more will be needed if the H1N1 virus spreads rapidly, as anticipated by health experts.
Today a dozen monks put on masks for the media, then took them off because they don't need them. The wat, like all the temples on Phuket, is a haven from most of the troubles of the outside world.
