Excited football fans at Surakul: now for a new code

Phuket International Rugby 10s: May 29-31

The Overgaard Phuket International Rugby 10s tournament is being held this year at Surakul Stadium in Phuket City from May 29-31.

The playing surface is much better there than at Karon stadium and the arena was host recently to the Asean Cup football tournament.

Spectators are welcome over the three days, but a larger turnout is anticipated for the Sunday final.

To promote youth rugby on the island, Soi Nam Yen School under 12s will play a game against British International School BIS Phuket U 12s as a curtain raiser to the finals.

There have been a couple of cancellations in the vets comp so two more teams are needed to round up the competition to 16 teams.

The 2008 Phuket International Rugby 10s raised close to 700,000 Baht for the Ronda Butler Memorial Fund. This equates to keeping 85 children on scholarships for the next year.

Pat Cotter, organiser of the Phuket International 10s and Roelein Muller of the Asia Centre Foundation won the prestigious International Rugby Board 'Spirit of Rugby' Award for 2008.

The Coffin Dodgers Registration Party will be held at the Tai Pan (www.taipan.st) at the top of Bangla Road beginning at 8.30pm on Thursday May 28. There will be a buffet and discounted drinks till midnight.

The Main Comp Registration Party will be held at the Aussie Bar (www.aussiebarphuket.com) on Bangla Road at 8.30pm on Friday May 29. Buffet

The Tour Virgin Beauty Pageant will be held at the Tai Pan at 8.30pm on Saturday May 30.There will be a buffet and discounted drinks till midnight.

ACF Fund Raising Knees up will be held at the Irish Times (www.irishtimespub-phuket.com) in Jungceylon at 8.30pm on Sunday May 31. Entry 750 baht per person, all proceeds going to the scholarship fund.

Includes food, live music, draw for prizes. Please support this event it will be a good way to finish off the weekend.
