What Phuketwan says:
If brunch is a legitimate time to dine, then what we have come for is linner. We hot-foot it up from the sand, thirsty and hungry, fresh from Kata beach, long after 2pm. The restaurant is themed in blue, as bright and curling as the sea on the other side of the sand. Wait staff perform in matelot hooped shirts and long shorts, and we have glasses of water almost before our bums hit the chairs. The wait staff are much better-dressed than we are, and oh, our bums quickly chorus, what chairs. All canvas and cushions, the wooden arms are wide, sharply angled and embracing, while the rear section allows for lean-back. We order a couple of quenching juice shakes and three dishes to share. Two of these are Thai and as tasty as can be. The third is a chilled beetroot cumin and yoghurt soup, with peach sorbet. Once we see and taste the fiery red but deliciously cool soup, we realise we have not been adventurous enough. Thick white tablecloths are now being thrown over surrounding tabletops. We have stayed on through dunch, nibbling on the crunchy bread sticks and crispy wafers. We are beginning to wonder whether we should treat our bums to dinner. With the outlook across to curling waves and surfers tumbling from boards, everything is serene. Except for the sound. The restaurant on the beach is backed by the Oasis Spring Tapas Bar, part of a small, stylish shopping mall, and seems to have a different sound system. The two systems compete, ballad against latin beat, over-riding each other and blotting out the single sound we'd much prefer to hear: the tumbling, natural surf. A little less jumbled sound is all the place needs to be just about perfect. How to find it: From the sand, just past the stacked boards at the surf shop. From the road, near Mom Tri's Boathouse Wine & Grill.
Parking: Street space.
