Police say checks will show whether a body fetched from the sea south of Patong belongs to a popular expat resident and businessman who went missing at the weekend.

POLICE are trying to identify the body of a Western man who was fetched from the sea off the Le Meridien Resort south of Patong today.
A fisherman came across the body about seven kilometres out to sea about 10am it was brought to shore at Karon beach, with the help of a dinghy from the resort..
Colonel Boonlert On-klang, of Chalong police, said the body was naked, with no distinguishing marks. The man had black hair and was about 175 centimetres tall. He was solidly built.
The body had been in the water for two or three days. It was taken to Vachira Hospital, where doctors were performing an autopsy.
Police are checking with embassies to see if the man's description matches any missing person.
Inquiries have failed to establish the identity of a woman whose body was found off Paradise Beach, south of Patong, dressed in a wetsuit.
The identity of a man found in the sea at Nai Harn beach earlier this year has also not been established.
Latest Phuket police have yet to identify the body of a woman in a wet suit, apparently a European, fetched from the water at Paradise Beach near Patong more than 48 hours ago.
