PHUKET: With main roads succumbing to floods, forecasters today predicted three days of continuous battering rain for Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi and other Andaman provinces.
Low-lying villages are preparing for the worst. in Phang Nga, fullscale flooding is already occurring in some areas.
On Phuket, canals are full and will burst if rain continues as predicted by the Phuket-based Southern Meteorological Centre (West Coast).
Small boats should not put to sea. But some will probably be put to good use shortly, rescuing stranded people on once- dry land.
The forecast for Phuket and all of the Andaman provinces is for heavy rain, with 80-90 percent chance of it falling.
Winds will be 20-45 kph with two-metre waves.
Landslips will become more likely as rain-soaked soil breaks free, especially on steep slopes where construction projects are underway.
All emergency services throughout Phuket and the Andaman were poised for action as the rain pelted down.
