In plain English for you...tourist numbers will decrease so will the number of property sales and their value. Great job maintaining them. But for the real foreign threats Thailand looks a little weak. Posted by Lena on May 20, 2014 20:57 Even if the tanks are WW 2 vintage Lena, they still pack a horrendous punch. French authorities find thousands of live shells that still surface in fields from WW1, an amazingly consistent number each year. But he BIGGER question remains: Will Thailand bring out the "heavy artillery" to make the country intrinsically safer on roadways, oceans and everywhere else, for locals, tourists expats, Rohingya, Burmese laborers, and those working diligently to change the ( often ) corrupted status quo of various Thai institutions? For similar reasons having lived in Thailand part of the reason I left in 2008 to go to the Great Barrier Reef to live was the politics, closing airports etc (Fortunately they re-opened. Imagine a family with two young children in London, Paris, Sydney, Melbourne etc will they risk going to a country that has military rule which could turn much worse? Time will tell but sadly I do not think the military had any choice. Tourism, property sales will be much slower in my opinion.

FF, your bleak view of the world is rather sad. If anything, having the Army on the streets of Bangkok reduces the dangers. The number of tourists killed in Thailand in recent street uprisings remains unchanged at zero, nil, none. Be as scared as you wish to be, just don't imagine too many others are going to run with you.
