A NORWEGIAN man plunged to his death from the 14th floor of a resort in Patong about 10.40am today. Police named him as Jon Kristian Seljeseth, 26.
Staff at the Phuket Palace resort, at the southern end of Patong, on th road to Karon, said Mr Seljeseth arrived on the island on November 3.
Security cameras at the resort showed Mr Seljeseth leaving his room on the third floor, walking up to the 14th floor and jumping at precisely 10.41am. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
An officer said the death may have been connected with news from Norway that Mr Seljeseth's three-year-old daughter had broken an arm.
A bar girl who had been staying with Mr Seljeset for five days said she had no idea that he planned to commit suicide.
An officer said there was evidence that Mr Seljeseth consumed large quantities of alcohol. His family has been notified, and his body is in Patong Hospital.
