More Australians die in Thailand than any other country

Thailand Tops Death List for Australians

Thursday, July 26, 2012
PHUKET: More Australians die overseas in Thailand than in any other country, according to figures from the country's Department of Foreign Affairs.

Of the 430 deaths of Australians in Thailand between 2006 and 2011, 112 were from unknown causes, the ninemsn.com.au site reported.

The total of 430 deaths compared with 300 for Vietnam, 284 for Greece, 255 in the US, and 252 in the Philippines.

Australians in Thailand appeared to have a higher proportion of deaths from unknown causes than the other leading countries.

The number of deaths last year tapered to 69 from a peak of 96 in 2010 and 98 in 2009. Deaths from unknown causes reached 25 in 2009, 34 in 2010 and 15 last year.

Nice statistic, with no absolute number off visitors to all named counties, to compare. Not that I would question the position of Thailand on that list, but wouldn't it almost be the same, if I would say: Australia belongs number one on the list, cause there is no other country overseas (out of the view of every other country), where more Australian die?

I bet Russia would top that list if they were allowed to enter Thailand!

Russians are very much allowed to enter Thailand, there are hundreds of thousands of them coming to Phuket each year.

There are Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics. This is an example of statistics taken out of context and used by a media outlet in Australia for another anti Thailand beat up.
Similar to the stories on Ninemsn about the beer mat lady and how unreasonable and racist Thai police where to her.
I do not even read Ninemsn news any more due to the poor quality of its fact checking.

I can only think that Mick's tongue was very firmly lodged in his cheek with that comment.
