PHUKET: Latest occupancy rate figures for Phuket resorts reflect increased demand and the important role that Phuket is likely to play in the recovery of tourism after the Bangkok floods.
Year-on-year figures for October show a boom in three-star accommodation, a surge in four-star, and an encouraging rise in five-star.
Thai Hotels Association figures for November as of yesterday were averaging 67.03 percent for the month so far compared to 64.06 for the whole of November last year.
For October, the average occupancy across all categories was 69.42 percent compared to 59.63 last year.
Suchart Hirankanokkul, President of the THA Southern Chapter, said an increase in the number of visitors from China had helped to boost three-star and four-star occupancy rates in October.

Five-star, 66 percent compared to 62.52 percent, a rise of 3.48 percent; four-star 74.4 percent compared to 65.33 percent, a rise of 9.07 percent; and three-star 67.86 percent compared to 51.05 percent, a rise of 16.8 percent.
