Alexey Gorbunov has good luck to thank for a quick operation

Russian in Phuket Blood Appeal Recovering After Operation

Saturday, December 10, 2011
PHUKET: Alexey Gorbunov, the beneficiary of an urgent blood donation campaign by Phuket's media, can thank his good luck that he was able to undergo surgery so quickly.

Not only did A Negative blood donors respond to the call from Phuketwan and other media but the Red Cross also happened to be asking visitors to the Immigration HQ in Phuket City to donate blood last Wednesday, too.

The result? Alexey was wheeled off for vital surgery on his neck that afternoon, before the last of the media appeals had even been made.

Today the 33-year-old Russian was confident he will be out of hospital and home soon, not to Russia but to Kathu.

As well as looking for a job once he is capable of leaving Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City, Mr Gorbunov will be setting out to determine what happened in the motorcycle crash that left him with a damaged neck and in need of extensive surgery to a badly broken right leg.

He currently shares a crowded ward in Vachira Phuket that highlights the need for more low-cost beds to cater for the needs of everyone on Phuket.
