PHUKET: The body of a Russian man has been found hanging from a tree in southern Phuket. His death was most likely a suicide, police said today.
The man, Vladimir Slobodenyuk, 29, was seen earlier walking around the Nai Harn lagoon, then later found hanging from a tree near a football field.
He was dressed in a light-blue t-shirt and white check shorts. There were no signs of marks on his body, said officers from Chalong Police Station.
It's not known whether the man was an expat or a tourist. He had a patient's card from Bangkok Hospital Phuket, in Phuket City, in a pocket.
There is no clarity yet on what motive he might have for suicide.
Police believe he climbed a tree, attached a rope, and jumped. His body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City.

A loss of life no matter the circumstances is a tragedy. My heartfelt sympathies go out to Vladimir's love ones.
In Australia the media do not report suicides which for many years has ignored the ''elephant in the room'',... mental illness. It's been a social mistake and isolated those suffering illness from society, metaphorically sweeping depression under the carpet. To ignore and discriminate is easier than to support, and so the social stigma of mental illness continues if we fail to act.
Depression is highly curable and manageable, should not define those experiencing the illness and bear no more social significance than having a cold or a broken leg. Illness is illness no matter how it manifests itself.
It's easier to understand illness and avert the causal factors rather than investigate someone's catastrophic actions after the event.
