BK MAGAZINE has put Phuket on the cover of issue no 305 under the heading: 'Sleep Here. Phuket's latest resort openings.'
The capital's giveaway entertainment guide lists the following resorts and opening dates:
Sri Panwa, grand opening late 2009, Sala Phuket, January 2008, Outrigger Serenity Terraces, soft opening April 2009, Courtyard by Marriott Phuket, January 2009, December 2008, June 2008, The Vijitt, October 2008, Adamas Resort and Spa, June 2008, Bel-Air Panwa, May 2009, Radisson Plaza Phuket Panwa Beach, July 2009, The Tique, late 2008.
Sri Panwa managed to win the Prime Minister and his family as guests earlier this year and we understand they may be hosting an even more highly-regarded family this weekend.
This is what BK has to say about price: ''You can expect to pay at least 32,000 baht a night for a one-bedroom villa through October 31, then it gets really expensive.''
Under the subhead Rave the magazine says: ''At last somewhere to give Amanpuri a run for its money. The villas are super stylish, have a stunning view over Chalong Bay and we just love our butler.''
Rather than crib too much from BK, we'll just haver some fun by listing all the Rants and letting Phuketwan readers work out which rant is for which resort. Here they are:
''Considering how much you are paying, the tiny beach is something of a disappointment.''
''It really is miles from anywhere so definitely not for party people. We even got a little spooked by the narrow entrance road at night.''
''Less a beach and more like a swamped wetland, so not a place you want to hang out. And while it aims to be a five-star property, it still needs a little bit more work to reach those lofty heights.''
''Yes, they are new, but you wouldn't know it from the cookie cutter design.''
''While they claim seclusion, their pool villas aren't that private.''
''Everything reminds us of the old 90s style imperial beach properties - boring!''
''Getting a bus to the beach isn't ideal and it's a long way from anywhere so you need a car unless you want to eat at xxxx restaurant every day.''
''It's only months old and still looks a little lifeless and undeveloped. Definitely needs some time for the plants to grow.''
''At this price, we can just about handle the long walk to the beach and noisy street, but no parking means that those with a car need to get up early (6.30am) or risk a ticket. No spa or restaurant.''
It's hard to tell whether the Anantara Resort Phuket, open late 2008, and IndoChine Resort and Villas would be sorry to be left off the list, or glad they weren't included.
